More Job Cuts At School Board

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board continues to cut teaching and support staff jobs in the face of declining enrollments.

24 and a half teaching positions are being eliminated through attrition while 19 fulltime support staff positions are being cut.

The exact number of support staff layoffs won’t be known for a few weeks while union members with seniority consider their bumping rights.

Some support staff cuts are also being made through attrition.

The cuts come after school board members voted in April to permanently close 17 schools over the next five years.

Ten schools will close at the end of the month.
