by The federal government is beginning the process of selling lands formerly owned by Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation.
The move comes after the former Conservative government announced the decommissioning of ECBC in 2014.
Scores of properties owned by the former Crown Corporation were transferred to Public Services and Procurement Canada in June of that year.
The Department’s acting regional director for Cape Breton operations, Gerard Shaw, says two subdivisions will go on the market first.
They are Aerie Estates in Ben Eoin, with 15 lots, and the 10 remaining lots in the Maplewood Drive subdivision in Glace Bay.
Federally-owned business centres in New Waterford and Port Hawkesbury will also go up for sale.
Shaw says the process of selling all of the Cape Breton lands considered surplus could take five to 10 years to complete.
