Massive Scrapyard Fire in Coxheath

There was a massive fire at a scrapyard in Coxheath, last night.

Nine fire departments responded to the blaze that broke out just before 7:00 near the intersection of the 125 Sydney Bypass and the Sydport Access Road.

Craig McNeil with the Sydney Fire Department says there were stacks of 400 to 500 cars on fire when they arrived on the scene.

He adds they had to truck in water to fight the blaze because there are no fire hydrants nearby.

A crane was also used to lift burning cars out of the pile.

The cause of the fire is unknown and the Fire Marshall’s Office is due at the scene this morning to investigate.
