Videotaped Statement From Barrett Murder Trial Released

The court has released the videotaped police statement that became a key piece of evidence in last month’s second-degree murder trial of Thomas Ted Barrett.

In the video, Sheryl Flynn from Sydney Mines says the Glace Bay man confessed to her that he strangled 21-year-old Brett Elizabeth MacKinnon from Glace Bay in 2006.

Flynn died a year after making the videotaped statement but Judge Robin Gogan allowed it to be admitted as evidence even though Flynn could not be cross-examined.

Gogan is due to issue her verdict on March 21.

MacKinnon was last seen in 2006 and her remains were found in a wooded area in Glace Bay, two years later.

Barrett also faces a second degree murder charge in the death of Laura Jessome from Bras d’Or.
