Two Homeless After Whitney Pier Fire

The Red Cross says two people are homeless after a fire extensively damaged their duplex in Whitney Pier, late yesterday afternoon.

It adds the blaze in the older wood-frame building at 162 Webster Street broke out shortly before 5:00.

It goes on to say neither of them were injured in the fire and adds Red Cross volunteers are helping the couple with emergency lodging, food and other basics.

There’s no word on the cause of the fire.
