600 Applications For 13 D-O-T Jobs

Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan says 600 people have applied for 13 provincial government jobs at the Department’s new call centre at the Grand Lake Road Fire Hall.

The province is looking for a manager along with eight full-time and four part-time dispatch operators for the centre that will take calls on road conditions from across the province.

It’s slated to open in late April or early May.

MacLellan says those dealing with the applications have been overwhelmed by the response but he adds he isn’t surprised, given the economic conditions and job prospects in Cape Breton.

He goes on to say he expects the 600 number to go up because the deadline for applications is still a few days away.

MacLellan also admits the 13 jobs aren’t the answer to the Island’s economic challenges but goes on to say it’s a start.

He adds it’s also a good example of setting up government centres in other parts of the province outside of Halifax.
