Board Grants Extension To Louisbourg Hub School Group

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board has granted an extension to the group looking to turn the school in Louisbourg into a hub school or community centre.

The Louisbourg Hub School Committee now has an extra three months to work on its proposal for George D. Lewis School.

The group was formed after George D. Lewis was one of 19 schools indentified by the board for possible closure.

However, the local committee put together to review the closure options voted to ask the board to give the Louisbourg Hub School Committee time to work on its proposal.

The group says one hub school possibility being explored would see municipal offices that are currently housed in the former Louisbourg town hall moved to the school.

Another possible use includes housing students in the archeology program that takes place at the Fortress of Louisbourg during the summer.
