New numbers from Stats Canada show Cape Breton’s population continues to decline despite a slight increase in the province’s overall population.
Nova Scotia’s population went up by .1 percent between July of 2014 and last July while Cape Breton recorded a one percent drop during that time.
That translates into 999 people leaving the Island.
Meanwhile, Halifax saw its population go up by 1 percent in the same period with nearly every other area in the province recorded a decline.
Guysborough County recorded the biggest drop, losing 3.2 percent of its population.
