A witness says Thomas Ted Barrett confessed to strangling Brett Elizabeth MacKinnon to death in a video statement played at the Glace Bay man’s second degree murder trial, yesterday.
The statement by Sheryl Flynn from Sydney Mines was given to police in November of 2012.
Flynn later died from an accidental drug overdose.
40 year-old Barrett is accused of killing the a 21-year-old Glace Bay woman who last seen in 2006 before her remains were found two years later near the No. 11 dump in Glace Bay.
In the video, Flynn says Barrett confessed to the crime while they sat in her car, parked outside the Tim Horton’s in Glace Bay in 2009.
Flynn goes on to say Barrett also told her he got an adrenaline rush while committing the crime.
In the recording, she describes Barrett as a very dangerous man and very, very sick.
Meanwhile, Crown lawyers at the trial want the video testimony entered into evidence while defence lawyer Brian Bailey is looking to keep it out.
Both sides are expected to make arguments in court today about the trial dealing with the question of whether Flynn was a paid police informant.
