McInnis Wants Sex Offences Sentencing Delayed

Former Cape Breton University recruitment director John Shea McInnis wants his sentencing on three sex offences put on hold while he appeals the conviction.

The 60 year-old Glace Bay man was convicted of sexual assault, sexual touching involving a person under the age of 16 and sexual interference with a person under the age of 16 in October.

The offences occurred in Glace Bay between 2000 and 2006 and involved a girl who was between the ages of seven and 11.

McInnis continues his release on conditions pending his sentencing, which is now scheduled for a week from Friday.

In court yesterday, MacInnis’ lawyer David Iannetti said his client is not accepting responsibility for the conviction which would make sentencing difficult.

Judge Arthur LeBlanc reserved his decision on the request but said he expects to rule on the matter this week.
