A Calgary man has been given a seven-year prison sentence for killing a former resident of Glace Bay. Nicholas Rasberry was originally charged with second degree murder in the 2013 stabbing death of Craig Kelloway, but was found guilty on the lesser charge of manslaughter in October. When he was sentenced today, Rasberry was given credit for time served, meaning that he’ll be in prison for another five years and four months. Prior to today’s sentencing, Rasberry had already been in custody for breaching his bail conditions. He was arrested early yesterday morning after he’s said to have tested positive for having alcohol in his blood. Today’s sentence may not be the last word in the case, as Rasberry’s manslaughter conviction is being appealed. Prosecutors are asking the Alberta Court of Appeal to overturn the acquittal on the original second degree murder charge.
