Power Outages and School Closures

There are several school closures in Cape Breton this morning, mostly due to power outages.

School is cancelled at Malcolm Munroe Middle School in Sydney, TL. Sullivan Middle School, Florence Elementary and Bras d’Or Elementary as well as all schools north of Smokey in the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board.

Meanwhile 7-thousand customers in Cape Breton are among more than 12-thousand without power in the province, this morning.

There are outages in the King’s Road and Welton Street areas of Sydney, Grand Lake Road, the Georges River and Bras d’Or area and from Ingonish to Pleasant Bay.

The estimated restoration times range from 8:45 this morning to 12:15 this afternoon.

Nova Scotia Power cites bad weather for some of the outages while the utility says the cause of others is being investigated.

Meanwhile, the Englishtown Ferry service has been suspended this morning and schools are also closed in Pleasant Bay, Inverness, Terre Noire and Cheticamp, today.
