Lindsay Broughton (born in Brooklin, Ontario) is a Canadian Country Music singer-songwriter.
For Lindsay Broughton, Country Music is home. It’s the quiet, country house, white picket fence, and the rocking chair on the porch. Not a surprising association, as she was raised with music as a constant companion throughout her childhood in Brooklin, Ontario. For all her life, no matter what changes headed her way, music has always been there for her.
Initially gaining inspiration from her performing mother, as soon as Lindsay was old enough she began performing. She became well and truly bit by the bug in high school, where she learned the guitar and joined the local song writing club. As part of a field trip, she went to the capital of Country music itself, Nashville, where even then her potential was noticed. Arriving back to Brooklin, encouraged by the praise received in Nashville, she was more determined than ever to hone her craft and pursue a career in music.
Upon first releasing a selection of her own songs on the Internet, she was approached by Brian Hetherman of Curve Music, who was taken with her raw talent and limitless potential. A deal was eventually struck and the doors were opened wide for Lindsay to begin her crash course in the music industry.
In just a short amount of time, she was featured as a SOCAN artist of the month, appeared in various song writing magazines, has had eight songs featured in the hit CBC show Heartland, has won a 2013 Country Music Association of Ontario Rising Star Award, and has had her songs covered by multiple artists…all before the release of her debut album.
When asked where her love for music began, Lindsay says happily, “I’ve always been a lover of music. I would write tons of poems and sing on my karaoke machine all day long when I was a child, but I didn’t begin composing and writing songs until I was about 16.” The musical talent admits to having a nerdy-side to her personality, listing video games as a favourite past time, in addition to playing with her two dogs, Hanna and Jack. Lindsay describes her fashion-style to be dynamic and sophisticated, yet stylish and fun.
One fun fact about Lindsay is her previous day-job that initially helped fund her craft, which shows the commitment she has to her music, “I work as a Janitor to support my expensive music hobby.
She has been a regular at the famous Boots & Hearts festival, has played at many CCMA showcases as well as the CMAO Awards show, and has shared the stage with some of country’s heavy hitters such as Chad Brownlee, Emerson Drive and Gord Bamford.
She released two self-titled EPs in 2012, the latter of which rose to #1 as the top selling Canadian Country album in Canada for a few weeks in 2013.
Now, her debut full length album and the result of multiple years-worth of development, field experience, and sheer grit, Take Me There, was released in Fall 2014. The album, like all of her works, is pulled from real life experiences, but focuses on the cycle we have all gone through at some point; love, loss, and redemption.
In just a few short years she has traveled the country, written and performed with some of Nashville’s best and brightest, and has earned critical recognition and accolades from the Country Music world’s most prestigious trend makers. She has traveled so far so fast and is not showing any signs of stopping.
She is extremely passionate about her career in music, and would welcome the opportunity to give back and help others by supporting different charities. “I do plan to get involved with different charities like Sick Kids Hospital. They do amazing work there, and my brother and I were both patients as well, so it would be great to honour the incredible help they have given our family
Lindsay’s musical ambitions will continue to grow with time, as she works diligently on her craft. She is a motivated and determined young artist. With the backing of her record label coupled with her love for music, the sky is the limit for the up-and-coming musical prospect.
