Suspended Regional Police Constable To Stand Trial On Assault Charges In May

A suspended Regional Police constable will stand trial in May on three counts of assault.

28 year-old Jeffrey Hennessey from Glace Bay is charged with two counts of assault involving his girlfriend and a single count involving a second woman.

The offences are said to have taken place at the Dominion Fire Hall and a nearby pizza shop on August 1^st.

The charges were filed after an investigation by the province’s police watchdog known as the Serious Incident Response Team or SIRT.

It recommended charges against Hennessey after taking statements from 10 civilian witnesses and eight police officers.

Hennessey is suspended with pay for 60 days and after that time Police Chief Peter McIsaac can decide whether to continue the suspension with or without pay.

Hennessey’s trial is scheduled for May 4.
