Stone Church Restoration Society Gets Counter-Offer

The group trying to buy the former St. Alphonsus Church in Victoria Mines says it now has a counter-offer from the Diocese of Antigonish.

The move comes after the Diocese rejected three previous purchase offers from the Stone Church Restoration Society.

Society spokesperson Melanie Sampson, says they now need to get legal advice about the terms of the counter-offer.

She adds she expects that to take place early next week.

Sampson goes on to say she can’t discuss the terms that are on the table, but does say she hopes they’ll have a purchase and sales agreement soon.

The group wants to turn the church into a community centre and perhaps a wedding chapel.
