by The Crown has dropped a charge of being an accessory to murder against a Richmond County woman as her trial was about to begin, today.
38 year-old Carla Ann Samson had faced the single count in the death of Phillip Boudreau.
Last month, her husband, 45 year-old Dwayne Matthew Samson pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter in Boudreau’s death after being originally been charged with second degree murder.
He’s been released on a number of conditions and is due back in court on August 11th to be sentenced.
The court has heard that Boudreau died after a violent altercation with the crew of the Twin Maggies fishing boat in Petit de Grat Harbour in June of 2013.
There was testimony that Boudreau was wounded and dragged out to sea after his small, motor boat was shot at and rammed by the Twin Maggies whose crew caught him tampering with their lobster traps.
Late last year, Carla Ann Sampson’s father, 67 year-old James Landry was found guilty of manslaughter in the case and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
That sentence is now being appealed.
Twin Maggies deckhand Craig Landry was a key witness for the Crown in James Landry’s case and also faces a charge of being an accessory to Boudreau’s murder.
