Membertou will mark another milestone in the building of its new Sport and Wellness Centre, today. Chief Terry Paul will make the first cut of the steel that will be used in the building during an event at the East Coast Metal Fabrication and East Eagle Contracting Facility. Construction of the $18-million Sport and Wellness Centre got underway in June. The multi-purpose facility will include two ice pads, an indoor walking track, a fitness centre and a geothermal ice-making system. It is being built near the Hampton Inn in Membertou and is slated to open by early next year.
