Bruckschwaiger Resigns

Longtime Regional councillor Darren Bruckschwaiger is providing no details on why he’s resigned from Council.

Bruckschwaiger issued a news release yesterday saying his resignation is effective immediately and that he made the decision to step down after much discussion with his family.

He was first elected to Council in 1997 and most recently represented a district that covers Dominion, Scotchtown, Gardiner Mines and parts of Reserve Mines and Glace Bay.

He also served as a councillor for the former town of Dominion from 1988 until municipal amalgamation in 1995.

Mayor Cecil Clarke also issued a news release praising Bruckschwaiger for his commitment to his community and wishing him and his family every future success.

Other councillors contacted about his resignation were surprised to hear the news.

Municipal clerk Deborah Campbell says Council must now set a byelection date within four weeks.
