An Edmonton man has been sentenced to four years in prison for fatally stabbing a Mabou man, two years ago.
23-year-old Cody Kyle Jensen was convicted of manslaughter in the death of 22-year-old Kenzie Beaton in May.
Beaton died from a fatal stab wound to his stomach after an altercation between the two men at an inn in Jasper, Alberta.
In sentencing Jensen yesterday, Justice June Ross said that his use of a knife in those circumstances was completely unnecessary.
The Crown had argued for a prison term of between of three and five years for Jensen while his lawyer said he should serve 18 to 24 months in jail.
Beaton’s mother, father and two sisters were in Edmonton for the sentencing.
His mother Debbie Beaton expressed relief that the case was over.
