George’s River Fire Still Under Investigation

The fire marshal is still investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home on Johnson Road in Georges River, near North Sydney on Friday.

Six volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze, along with the regional hazardous materials unit to deal with an oil tank in the basement of the home.

Three firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion while battling the blaze.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

The homeowner, who doesn’t want to give his name, says the house was the target of a break-in about two weeks before the fire, but adds he doesn’t know if the incidents are related.
