Regional Council has voted in favour of a deal that will see the North Sydney Forum demolished at a fraction of the estimated cost.
Under the deal, Northern Contracting from Sydney Mines will demolish and dispose of the building for 57-thousand dollars.
Estimates had originally put the cost of the work at between 165 and 190-thousand dollars.
In return, Northern Contracting will get two parcels of land at the site.
A third parcel of land will go to the CBRM.
Planning Director Malcolm Gillis says Northern Contracting has no immediate plans for the property but he adds the land isn’t zoned to be used as a depot for the contracting business.
Councillor Mae Rowe cast the only dissenting vote on the deal saying she’s worried it puts the CBRM on the hook in future cases of derelict buildings needing to be demolished.
