14-Year Old Hospitalized After New Waterford Assault

A 14-year-old boy is still in hospital and two other teens are facing charges after an assault in New Waterford, last week.

Theresa Sudworth from New Waterford says her son Alexander has bruising on his brain, a skull fracture and possibly a fractured eardrum after he was attacked on Wednesday night.

She adds he was walking down Eighth Street with a group of girls between 9:00 and 10:00 when someone called out to the group.

Sudworth says they accused the teens of saying something to them and dared them to do it again.

She says although no one in the group said anything in the first place, someone jumped a fence and started attacking her son with a baton.

Sudworth goes on to say another boy joined the attack and the two suspects then got into a passing car.

18 year-old Dakota Charles Williams from Scotchtown is facing charges of aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in relation to the attack.

He’s currently on remand and is due in court tomorrow for a bail hearing.

A 17-year old boy from New Waterford who can’t be named because of his age has been charged with aggravated assault and has been released on conditions.

Meanwhile, Sudworth says her son continues to recover from his injuries at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
