Two Cape Breton Tory MLA’s Resigning Today
Cape Breton Tory MLA’s Alfie MacLeod and Eddie Orrell are resigning, today.
The pair and their Progressive Conservative colleague Chris d’Entremont are stepping down to run for the Conservatives in the October federal election.
Premier Stephen McNeil says he doesn’t know when he’s going to call by-elections to fill the vacancies left by today’s resignations.
Meanwhile, independent MLA Lenore Zann says she’ll continue to serve as a provincial politician, despite winning the federal Liberal nomination for Cumberland-Colchester.
The former NDP MLA says she plans to resign when her nomination papers are submitted to Elections Canada in September.
