Reserve Mines Man Jailed For Two Years For Sexual Exploitation

A Reserve Mines man has been given a two-year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to sexually exploiting a girl who was his student.

53 year-old Lawrence Robert Summerell taught at Memorial High in Sydney Mines, and had been placed on administrative leave from his teaching job before today’s sentencing.

Summerell was also charged with sexual assault in the case, but that charge was later dropped.

In addition to his sentence, Summerell is also subject to a DNA order and his name will be put on the sex offender registry for 20 years.
