Police Investigating Copper Wire Thefts

Nova Scotia Power says it’s contacted Regional Police and Baddeck RCMP about a rash of copper wire thefts on the island.

The utility says a significant amount of live wire has been stolen from roadside power poles since the start of June.

It’s warning a live wire can carry 25,000 volts and a charge from it could seriously injure or kill anyone nearby.

It also says removing the wires can create unstable power for nearby customers, and creates dangerous working conditions for power crews.

Anyone with information on the wire thefts is asked to call Regional Police, RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
