NSTU Prez Says Funding Should Not Be Based On Enrollment
The president of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union says funding for school boards should not be based on enrollment.
Shelly Morse makes the comments in the wake of news that the Cape Breton-Victoria Board is cutting 62 positions, including 36 teaching jobs through attrition.
Morse adds funding should be based on student need and not numbers.
She goes on to say schools with declining enrollments still offer the same number of extracurricular activities even though there are fewer teachers to deliver them.
She says staff cuts mean poorer education and more teacher burnout.
