New Dialysis Unit Coming To GB Hospital

The province says the construction of a new six-station dialysis unit at the Glace Bay Hospital is expected to begin this spring.

It says it’s approved funding for construction and a request for proposals will be issued next month.

Dialysis patients now have to go to the Regional Hospital in Sydney.

The Health Department says about 24 patients from the Glace Bay area are expected to use the new dialysis unit.

Funding for part of the project is coming from the estate of the late Thomas Peach from Glace Bay, who left 1.9 million dollars to help establish dialysis services in the community.

The Health Department says projects to build new dialysis units, or expand existing ones, are now underway at six hospitals across the province.
