Municipality, CBU Get Transit Funding

The Regional Municipality is getting $1.2 million from the province to buy six buses.

One of the buses will be new and the other five used.

The province is also giving $300,000 to Cape Breton University to put toward a new bus shelter on campus.

The Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage says the money announced today will help address a growing demand on the bus service from students and other riders.

The announcement comes after the transit service announced changes yesterday designed to increase the number of times buses visit communities.

Two new transfer hubs are now operating at Cape Breton University and the North Sydney Mall.
