Man Who Died At Correctional Centre Identified
The man who was found dead in his cell at the Cape Breton Correctional Centre on Sunday has been identified as 43-year-old Ernest Jason Marcel Leblanc from Sydney Mines.
Meanwhile, Leblanc’s father is questioning why his son wasn’t taken to hospital for a medical check when he was admitted to the facility despite a background of serious drug addiction.
Ernest Leblanc adds his son had been in and out of drug rehabilitation programs and was at a halfway house on day parole after pleading guilty to possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
The elder Leblanc says his son was sent back to jail after not making it back to the halfway house by curfew because of the weekend winter storm.
Meanwhile, a provincial Justice Department spokesperson won’t comment on the matter or even confirm that LeBlanc is the prisoner who died in his cell.
However, Chrissy Matheson does say the department is completing an internal inquiry on the matter.
