Group Supporting Sydney Library Offering To Call Meeting Over Funding Confusion
The group promoting a new library on the Sydney waterfront is offering to call a public meeting to deal with confusion over government funding for the project.
The Cape Breton-Victoria Central Library Advocacy Committee makes the offer in a letter to Mayor Cecil Clarke and Council.
The letter also states the Committee is disappointed the project has become mired in what it calls a procedural disagreement between the three levels of government.
The move comes after Mayor Clarke said last week the project is dead.
He says the application for federal money can’t be resubmitted before Ottawa stops making announcements in advance of this fall’s election.
The prompted Cape Breton’s outgoing Liberal MP’s Rodger Cuzner and Mark Eyking to say the project isn’t dead but the application has to come from the province.
