Former CBU Pesident David Wheeler Running for NDP in Halifax

Former Cape Breton University President David Wheeler is running for the provincial NDP in the riding of Halifax Armdale.

NDP Leader Gary Burrill described Wheeler as a high profile candidate while making the announcement, this morning.

He says Wheeler has been a vocal advocate for affordable post-secondary education and adds he wrote the report that resulted in a ban on fracking in the province.

Wheeler was fired from his post at CBU in December over his handling of contract negotiations with the faculty association.

Halifax Armdale is now held by provincial Immigration Minister Lena Diab.

The news of Wheeler’s candidacy comes amid widespread speculation the McNeil government will call an election this spring.
