Eyking, Cuzner Respond to Clarke Statement On Library
Cape Breton’s two Liberal MP’s are taking issue with Mayor Cecil Clarke’s recent comments on a proposed new library in Sydney.
Clarke said yesterday the project is dead after Council got a letter from Mark Eyking and Rodger Cuzner saying the municipality has to resubmit its application for the federal government’s share of the funding.
Cuzner and Eyking say the province takes the lead in submitting infrastructure projects, and they’re telling Clarke to contact Premier Stephen McNeil to work out a number of matters.
They say Clarke should ask McNeil to confirm the municipality’s proposal fits with program requirements.
They also say the Mayor should work with the Premier to determine if the new library is a priority, and if so ask the province to forward the finalized application to Ottawa as soon as possible.
Eyking and Cuzner say if that happens they’ll do their part to get federal approval to help fund the project.
