Cape Breton coal to power Lingan plant
For the first time in 20 years, Nova Scotia Power will be burning Cape Breton coal to generate electricity.
The utility will be using coal from Donkin to power the Lingan station.
Details of the new agreement between the utility and Kameron Coal are not being made public.
The utility says Donkin coal, when washed, burns properly in the Lingan plant and meets emission regulations.
Cape Breton Centre MLA Tammy Martin says despite the good news, her constituents are still concerned about the number of heavy trucks on local roads and about the environmental impact of using Donkin coal.
