Board Told To Delay Consolidation Of New Waterford Elementary Schools
Elected members of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board were told a consolidation of New Waterford’s elementary schools should not happen until at least next year, last night.
The Board held its final public consultation on possible school closures in the New Waterford area at Breton Education Centre.
A committee that looked at possible school closures in the New Waterford Family of Schools is recommending that St. Agnes and Mt. Carmel Elementary schools should close.
Students from both schools would then go to Greenfield Elementary in New Waterford.
But options committee chair Chris Hillier insists that should not happen until next year at the earliest to allow time to make the transition.
He was also not happy with the board’s technical report that says the consolidation could happen as early as this September.
Meanwhile, Board Chair Lorne Green says no final decisions have yet been made on school closures.
A final public consultation on possible school closures in the Sydney family of schools is scheduled to get underway at 6:30 this evening at Sydney Academy.
