Sentencing For Teen Found Guilty In Death Of Sydney Academy Student
A 16 year old boy found guilty of criminal negligence in the death of a fellow student at Sydney Academy is due to be sentenced today.
The boy who can’t be named because of his age was convicted in October after an incident at the school in February.
18 year-old Chris Chafe died after he was pushed in front of a school bus that was pulling up outside Sydney Academy.
During the boy’s trial, the defence argued that Chafe and the teen were horsing around at the time and were not involved in any serious altercation.
But Judge Peter Ross found that the boy clearly knew that a bus was approaching and that he should have been able to see the possible consequences of his actions.
Ross ordered a pre-sentence report after delivering his verdict.
