No Pro Basketball For CB, This Year
People will have to wait another year to see professional basketball return to Cape Breton.
The president of the new Sydney franchise in the National Basketball League, Tyrone Levingston, says the team won’t play in the league in 2015-16.
However, he adds the club remains a part of the league and adds they hope to hit the court at Centre 200 for 2016-17.
Levingston cites a tight timeline to finalize the local ownership group and get sponsorships for a December 26th start of the season for the delay.
The club’s investors include local businessmen Marty Chernin and Parker Rudderham, along with a few other minor backers.
Meanwhile, Levingston says they got about 1000 entries in a contest to name the new team that ended yesterday.
He expects a winner to be announced in a couple of weeks.
