Garnier Sentencing, Today
The Cape Breton native who murdered off-duty police officer Catherine Campbell is due to be sentenced today as he awaits an appeal of his conviction.
30 year-old Christopher Garnier was found guilty of second-degree murder and interfering with human remains in December.
The conviction carries an automatic life sentence and Gariner will have to wait between 10 and 25 years before he can apply for parole.
Meanwhile, he’s appealing his conviction on a number of grounds, including that the judge erred in not allowing opinion evidence from a cognitive psychologist.
Dr. Timothy Moore testified the interrogation technique police used on Garnier has a risk of leading to false confessions from innocent people.
