Flags At Half Mast To Honour Flynn
Flags in the Regional Municipality are flying at half mast today in honour of Glace Bay area councillor Darrell Flynn.
Flynn died yesterday after being hospitalized on June 22nd because of complications from pneumonia.
The 58 year-old won a landslide victory in a bye-election in December of 2014 and had intended to re-offer in October’s municipal elections.
Mayor Cecil Clarke has issued a statement extending his sympathies to Flynn’s widow, his two children and their families.
Flynn was the long-time owner of the Swiss Chalet restaurant in Sydney.
He served on the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board before being elected to Council.
He’s the second regional councillor to die during this term.
Northside area councillor Charlie Keagan died in January from complications after a December heart attack.
Councillor Claire Detheridge suffered a brain hemorrhage in December and has announced she will not re-offer in October.
