New Stats Canada figures show Cape Breton’s Unemployment rate saw a slight decrease last month.
The jobless rate on the island in July was 12.3 percent, marking a decline of seven tenths of a percent from June, and a drop of a tenth of a percent from July of last year.
Nationally, the unemployment rate went down to its lowest level in almost nine years to 6.3 percent.
Statscan says the Canadian economy added jobs for the eighth month in a row last month.
However, it adds the pace of job growth went down with 10,900 net new positions, down from an increase of 45,300 in June.
The agency goes on to say the number of full-time jobs grew by 35,100, offset by the loss of 24,300 part-time jobs.
