Clarke Visiting Mainland PC Party Members
Regional Mayor Cecil Clarke is paying a visit to the province’s South Shore today as speculation swirls about a possible run for the provincial Tory leadership.
Clarke’s spokesperson, Christina Lamey, says he’s on a personal visit to the area, along with local Tory MLA Alfie MacLeod, after being invited by a group of Progressive Conservative members.
A report from Yarmouth’s Y95 quotes Clarke expressing views on doctor shortages, education and infrastructure.
Clarke’s trip to the mainland comes after a group of progressive Conservatives launched a website last month called “draftcecil.ca”, imploring the former MLA and Cabinet Minister to run for the Tory leadership.
Lamey says Clarke has not made any decisions on the matter, and just wants to hear the views of party members.
Tory Finance Critic Tim Houston has already announced his leadership bid after Jamie Baillie’s announcement he intends to step down.
