Sydney Woman Dies After Rescuing Swimmers
RCMP say a Sydney woman died on Sunday after participating in a rescue effort at a beach in Broad Cove. Emergency responders got the call at about 4:30 Sunday afternoon, when a group of swimmers was stranded by a riptide. RCMP say several bystanders were able to rescue the swimmers, but one of the rescuers later collapsed onshore. The other bystanders performed CPR, but the 45 year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has yet to be released. A man sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to hospital. The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious, though an investigation is being conducted by the RCMP and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
