Raitt Announces $500,000 For Port
Federal Transport Minister Lisa Raitt announced half a million dollars in federal funding today to help to market the Port of Sydney as part of the Atlantic Gateway initiative. Raitt was joined by Mayor Cecil Clarke and newly-elected Liberal MLA Derek Mombourquette for the announcement at the Joan Harriss Cruise pavilion in Sydney. Port marketing efforts will also be aided with an additional $500,000 to be cost-shared between the CBRM, the province, Business Cape Breton, and the Port of Sydney Development Corporation. The municipality’s contribution is $107,500. The total $1 million package will be used to market the port over the next three years. Meanwhile, Ottawa announced nearly 50-thousand dollars for the Ingonish Landing Marina today, as part of efforts to establish the marina as an ideal lay-over point for boaters on their way to the Bras d’Or Lakes. Today’s announcements are part of a flurry of others that are being made by the government in advance of an anticipated federal election call.
